Indiana Pacers Forward Chris Copeland Stabbed; Wife Slashed

NBA player Chris Copeland and his wife was stabbed outside a Manhattan nightclub, Wednesday.

Report says Chris Copeland, a forward for the Indiana Pacers, was stabbed in the abdomen, outside of the 1 Oak Club on 17th street, while his wife Katrine Saltara, was slashed in the arm and leg. Copeland, 31, and Saltara, 28, were arguing outside the nightclub at about 4 a.m. when the suspect, Shezoy Bleany, 22, interrupted and Copeland told him to get lost.

The suspect then allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Copeland in the stomach before turning on Saltara. Both were hospitalized in stable condition. Bleary was arrested and charges are pending. Copeland was in New York City for a game Wednesday night with the Knicks.

Another woman, Catherine Somani, 55, an acquaintance of Bleary, also was accidentally cut in the abdomen. In addition to this, police arrested two members of the NBA’s Altanta Hawks, Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha.

They were charged with obstruction after allegedly refused to move when police worked to set up a crime scene. The Hawks are set to play with the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. 

Christopher Stephen Copeland was born March 17 1984 in Orange, New Jersey, to mother Terry. He played college basketball for the University of Colorado Boulder. He was drafted in year 2007.
